La noche de las estrellas fugaces
Pastor, Ben
Berlin, July 9, 1944, days before Operation Valkyrie, the failed attack on Hitler. Lieutenant Colonel Martin Bora, former agent of the Abwehr military intelligence service, returns from the Italian front; a man of integrity, of a great culture, who faces difficulties with stoicism. He has received permission to attend the funerals of his uncle, a reputed physician, staunch critic of the experiments promoted by the Nazi regime, who has apparently committed suicide. Bora finds himself in a city devastated by bombing and a tense and suffocating environment in which fear, denunciations and revenge prevail. He anticipates that the week will be hectic, especially when he receives from General Arthur Nebe, head of the Kripo, the criminal police, the task of investigating the murder of Walter Niemeyer, a well-known magician, astrologer and seer of high society since the times of the Weimar Republic, friend and confidant of the Nazi hierarchs. Soon, the insightful Martin Bora realizes that there is much more at stake than this murder in a paranoid city where everyone is suspicious of everyone and there are insistent rumors of a conspiracy that targets the very heart of the Nazi hierarchy. Danger lurks around every corner. Tempers are precariously tense among Army officers, secret meetings multiply, suspicious deaths follow one another... While shooting stars cross the night skies of Berlin, as if they were symbols of a glorious past that is fading and an uncertain future that is difficult to trust.
