La nanomedicina
Herranz Rabanal, Fernando
Nanomedicine, understood as the application of nanotechnology to biomedical problems, is a relatively new field of research that has multiple applications, from diagnosis to treatment of pathologies such as cancer, cardiovascular and even infectious diseases. His study covers disciplines such as chemistry to prepare new nanomaterials, physics to characterize their properties and biomedicine for the final application, without forgetting aspects of engineering or bioethics; in this sense, nanomedicine extends from basic research to clinical application. One of its most spectacular and recent applications is the vaccine against COVID-19, based on lipid nanoparticles that carry messenger RNA. This book covers from the physicochemical bases that make nanomedicine different to the main applications in diagnosis and therapy. The future use of nanomaterials in biomedicine offers a vast world to explore.
