La muerte de Vivek Oji
Emezi, Akwaeke
One afternoon, in a city in southeastern Nigeria, a mother opens the door of her house and finds the body of her son, wrapped in colorful cloth, at her feet. Thus begins the vibrant story of a family and its difficulties in understanding a son with a spirit as delicate as it is enigmatic. Raised by a distant father and an understanding but overprotective mother, Vivek often suffers from blackouts, confusing moments of disconnection between himself and the world around him. As adolescence gives way to adulthood, Vivek will find solace in the friendship of a group of hot and rowdy girls, all daughters of the Nigerwives, an association of foreign-born women married to Nigerian men. However, it will be Osita, his cousin, with whom he forges the deepest bond. Full of life and more experienced than Vivek, Osita hides behind a mocking facade of self-confidence a private life that he does not share with anyone. As their relationship grows closer -and Osita struggles to understand Vivek's growing crisis- the mystery unravels in surprising ways.
