La mirada interior

mística femenina en la Edad Media

Cirlot, Victoria
Garí, Blanca

The Inner Look brings together the stories of eight mystical and visionary women, from the twelfth to the fourteenth centuries, and the direct testimonies of their experiences are analyzed and discussed. Hildegard of Bingen was the threshold that led to the great mystical splendor of the thirteenth century, in which women like Hadewijch of Antwerp, Beatrice of Nazareth, Matilde of Magdeburg or Margaret of Oingt wrote about their experience of God in vulgar languages, in works that they denote its great culture and that they constitute the best testimony of the feminine spirituality of the time. Angela de Foligno, illiterate, is moved by the authenticity of an experience that had to be written by her confessor, while Margarita Porete is a clear antecedent of Master Eckhart. Juliana de Norwich closes this space with hers extraordinary hers The Book of Love's Revelations.
