La memoria compartida

Bretones, Carmen

Shared memory is the story of three women: a Spanish university professor, a nineteenth-century writer and a young woman of humble origins who, thanks to her marriage to a landowner, becomes part of the rancid English aristocracy. The professor moves to England to finish her doctoral thesis. The writer is a young girl, originally from a town in Devon, who emigrates to London in search of a dream: to become a new woman, an independent and famous "new woman", capable of living from journalism and literature in one of the epicenters of cultural and artistic life in Europe at the time. The third is a woman who lives with her children and her husband surrounded by comforts in a stifling and isolated rural environment. The three stories are combined with each other so that the reader goes deeper into each one of them and gets to know the different protagonists to discover little by little that, despite the fact that they belong to different historical and spatial contexts, the three have many things in common. common and form part of the same shared history.
