La marcha Radetzky

Roth, Joseph

Originally published in 1932, "The Radetzky March", whose title alludes to the famous composition by Johann Strauss, is the masterpiece of Joseph Roth and a classic of 20th century European literature. It portrays the decline of the Habsburg empire through three generations of the von Trotta family, whose destiny seems irrevocably linked to that of the monarch since his grandfather, the "Hero of Solferino", saved his life in battle. With a great capacity for evocation and an exquisite irony not without nostalgia, the novel transports us to a world in decline that refuses to stop being as much as many resist saying goodbye to it.
