La marca del agua
Iglesias, Montserrat
April 19, 1950. The water has already reached the stone that serves as a witness: in less than ten days Hontanar will disappear forever, flooded by the swamp. Everyone is celebrating the inauguration of the new town, only the Cristóbal brothers remain there. But a terrible event forces them to rush off on the journey: Marcos discovers his sister Sara hanging from a buttress on the block. Wrapped in the quilt that she embroidered over the years for a trousseau that will never be used and hidden between sacks of potatoes, Sara travels that road in her brother's car. After all, she always wanted to leave town. During the journey through a territory that is already a wasteland, Marcos remembers the family's history, its shadows and silences: the arrival as children whose origin their mother wanted to hide, Sara's wishes to build a life of her own, the obsession of the mother for the perfect suitor who would provide her with a good wedding, the unconfessed feelings and impulses, the betrayals and the relationship with the Falangist engineer in charge of the works of the swamp...
