La mañana de un terrateniente
Tolstoï, Lev Nikolaevich
Prince Nekhliudov is determined to improve the lives of the peasants who work his family's land. Convinced of the success of his mission, the young aristocrat ignores the voices of his relatives who try to dissuade him and, without completing his studies, he returns to the family farm to remedy the difficulties of the peasants. This undoubtedly autobiographical background story originally published in 1856 -at the same time that Tolstoy laid the foundations for his unique understanding of the relations between the peasantry and the rural aristocracy- is a testament to the writer's determination to contribute to the renewal of the Rural Russia, understood as a return to a simpler life and faithful to Christian precepts, and to a more caring state of humanity.
