La librería y la diosa
Vázquez, Paula
Raised in a family in which books are "dangerous for health", Paula dreams of having her own library. This love of hers for literature leads her to seek a life away from her home of origin. On the other side of the ocean, first in Barcelona and then in Madrid, she founded a bookstore filled with the works of her most beloved authors. To her surprise, after the death of her mother, this vocation of hers opens space for new desires, which at times seem impossible: to have a child and finally belong to a place permanently. Divided between tasks and countries, Paula finds a new revelation in ceramics. In the garden of Mishal, her teacher, she discovers the power of patient observation and craftsmanship, and ends up forging the figure of the goddess of Laussel, which she places in the center of her house. Guided by her, by conversations with friends and by reading her admired writers, from T. S. Eliot to Roberto Bolaño, Natalia Ginzburg, Agota Kristof and Marta Sanz, the Argentine author and founder of the Lata Peinada bookstore gives us a moving memoir about the transformative power of literature, the unique profession of bookseller and the different ways of creating and reinventing life.
