La leyenda de Sigurd y Gudrún
Tolkien, J. R. R.
Many years ago, Tolkien composed his own version, now published for the first time, of the great legend of Norse antiquity, in two related poems to which he gave the titles The New Ballad of the Völsungs and The New Ballad of the Völsungs. of Gudrun. The Lay of the Völsungs tells the story of the great hero Sigurd, the hunter of the most famous of dragons, Fáfnir, whose treasure he seized; of the awakening of the Valkyrie Brynhild, who slept surrounded by a wall of fire, and of her betrothal; and of his coming to the court of the great princes whom they called the Niflungs (or Nibelungs), to whom he became a blood brother. In this court a great love was born, but also a great hatred, fueled by the power of the sorceress, mother of the Nibelungs, initiated in the arts of magic, transformations and oblivion potions. In scenes of dramatic intensity, of confused identities, frustrated passions, jealousy and bitter fights, the tragedy of Sigurd and Brynhild, of the Nibelung Gunnar and his sister Gudrún, becomes more intense until its end with Sigurd's death at the hands of his blood brothers, Brynhild's suicide, and Gudrún's despair. In The Ballad of Gudrún her fate is recounted after Sigurd's death, her marriage against her will to the powerful Atli, ruler of the Huns (the historical Attila), his assassination at the hands of Gudrún's Nibelung brothers, and the hideous revenge that it carries out.
