La larga siesta de Dios
Coll, Pep
France, May 1940. Samuel Silverstein, a transporter of Jewish origin, finds himself trapped in the exodus of fugitives that Nazi troops are pushing towards the Midi. As a result of a Luftwaffe bombing raid, Silverstein loses everything and begins a new life as an agent for an underground organization working to save Jewish children by hiding them in rural areas. Working as a street vendor makes it easy for him to move around the villages and farmhouses of the Ariège valleys. He will soon discover a monastery in ruins where dozens of children and adolescents survive, under the constant threat of gendarmes at the orders of the Vichy government. While the Nazi barbarism devastates Europe and the Jews wait for Yahweh to wake up once and for all, crossing the Pyrenees seems the only escape option.
