La Inquisición española
realidad y procedimiento del Santo Oficio
Madrid, Darío
Despite what the vast majority thinks, the Inquisition did not originate in Spain, but was a Vatican creation to put an end to the spread of the Cathar or Albigensian heresy in France, which spread throughout Europe during the 12th and 13th centuries. . It had already been in operation for three centuries, when in 1478 Pope Sixtus IV issued a bull to the Catholic Monarchs to appoint inquisitors in Castile. The anti-Spanish Black Legend was encouraged and spread by the enemies of the Hispanic monarchy - mainly German, Dutch and English Protestants - who managed to identify the existence of the Inquisition exclusively with it. In this work the author does not try to replace a Black Legend with a Pink Legend, but rather, with historical rigor and truthful sources, he clearly explains what the process was like before the Holy Office, a court that offered the greatest procedural guarantees in the Europe of the religious wars of the modern age. The Holy Office is treated as a product of its time, it is explained in an easy and enjoyable way from the composition of the Court, the presence of lawyers, the evidence admitted, how torture should have been applied, among many other aspects. In short, he clarifies for us what this process was like, which incorporated guarantees unknown in the courts of that time.
