La hija
Delabroy-Allard, Pauline
At thirty and pregnant with her first daughter, Pauline has never had an identity card. When she finally does, she discovers, behind her first name, those of three strangers: Jeanne, Jérome and Ysé. Why were they given at birth?. In her family, they never talk about the past or what is intimate and, furthermore, it is forbidden to ask. However, when giving birth, a terrible event leaves her adrift and that blank space in which she always had the feeling of growing up grows until it engulfs her. In order to survive the devastation, she Pauline begins an obsessive investigation aimed at pursuing the trail of these three ghosts, behind which she may be able to find salvation or, at least, the necessary material to build her own identity. An aimless search bordering on madness, she pushes her in the footsteps of an alienated great-grandmother, through the Tunisian alleyways of Susa and through the homosexual Paris of the eighties, until she ends up on the stage of a play.
