The beautiful room is empty, the second part of the autobiographical trilogy that began with the Story of a Boy, follows our character through a new phase of his life -late fifties and sixties- in which he will embark on the path that leads him to stop considering his sexuality as a disease, worthy of blame and contempt. Thus, between the fleeting contact with strangers in public bathrooms, the discovery of his new bohemian friends and the happy and turbulent company of other gay men who live their identity with ease, the narrator will make his way towards a move to New York, where he will be witness and protagonist of a liberating force, both personal and collective.
