La guerra de las salamandras

Capek, Karel

"The War of the Salamanders" (1936) is a satire of the destructive tendencies of modern society and an investigation into the relationships between reality and representation. Salamanders symbolize all minorities victims of inequality and discrimination. The inexhaustible greed of capitalism, institutions and practices such as journalism, science, religion, fashion, nationalism, militarism, the desire for technological dominance over nature are the object of criticism and form a disenchanted and pessimistic vision of the contemporary world.
