La guerra de las Galias
César, Cayo Julio
With the name of the Gallic War, the seven books of Julius Caesar were dedicated to recount the campaigns carried out over seven years (from 58 to 52) to subdue Transalpine Gaul, make an expedition to Britain and reinforce the borders with the Germans. . Each year corresponds to a book written with his usual sober and careful prose. Using this work, Juilio César intended to extend the aura of his fame, explaining in an apparently aseptic way the importance and difficulty of his exploits. And in this sense, not haggling over praise for his lieutenants or downgrading their merits was yet another means of incorporating them into his cause while maintaining his spirit of collaboration. However, these justifying brushstrokes have little or nothing to do with the authentic purpose of the work, which was none other than extolling and magnifying some warlike achievements that allowed him to rise to Pompey's height.
