La grieta en el mundo ; Diecisiete esbozos desde la oscuridad
Schimmelpfennig,, Roland
Roland Schimmelpfennig is currently the most interpreted and translated contemporary German-speaking author in the world. His theater focuses mainly on the consequences of the relationship between human beings and contemporary society and is covered with surreal and dreamlike elements. He is considered the father of the return to staged narration. Some of his recurring themes are lack of communication, the fragility of emotions or metaphysical questions. In The Crack in the World, Schimmelpfennig uses the ten plagues of the Old Testament to represent the torment of the characters through fragmentary dialogue and snippets of seemingly trivial small talk in a progressive musical structure. In Seventeen Sketches from the Darkness, based on La ronda by Arthur Schnitzler, power relationships in sentimental couples are explored, showing dependency structures and questioning the concepts of love relationships through ten characters who meet in the dark: a film producer and an actress, a young author and a party girl, an open married couple, a prostitute and a soldier, a hotel manager and a maid.
