La fortuna de Finch

Roche, Mazo de la

Dear Adeline is gone, but her specter still haunts Jalna's chambers, her last words still echoing in the halls of the estate. Finch is well aware of this: he will soon be twenty-one and will finally have access to his grandmother's estate. The thorny issue and the memory of his family's dismay at the opening of his will haunt him everywhere. However, in an attempt to overcome the crisis, his uncles and brothers organize a great anniversary party for him, at the end of which Finch surprises everyone by proposing a trip to England, the homeland of the Whiteoaks, the land where it all began and memories and legendary stories dwell that make those places endearing even to the youngest of the clan. After the transatlantic crossing, the Whiteoaks enjoy a brief stay in London, where Finch will be dazzled by new perspectives on the old world. But it will be at his aunt Augusta's house, in the Devon countryside, where the real surprise awaits him: cousin Sarah -an orphan raised by her aunt, refined and a lover of music-, for whom he will immediately feel attracted. Meanwhile, in Canada, little Wakefield discovers his poetic bent and relations between Renny and Alayne take an unexpected turn. So much so that, upon his return, Finch will find a very changed family.
