La flor púrpura

La flor púrpura

Adichie, Chimamanda Ngozi

Fifteen-year-old Kambili and her older brother Jaja lead a privileged life in the city of Enugu. They live in a beautiful house and attend an elitist religious school, but their family life is far from harmonious. Her father, a powerful and respected businessman, is a Catholic fanatic who raises impossible expectations of affection. When the young people visit the affectionate and daring aunt Ifeoma for a few days in her humble apartment, they discover a whole new world: the rich smell of curry that fills the place, the continuous laughter of their cousins, the exuberant flowers, the warmth, the respect for ideas, the freedom, love and the absence of punishment. Upon returning home, transformed by the freedom they have won, family tension grows alarmingly.
