La financiación del terrorismo
ETA y el Movimiento de Liberación Nacional Vasco
Buesa, Mikel
The financing of terrorism has been the object of few detailed studies that allow to know precisely its sources and evolution. In this book, Mikel Buesa addresses this question in the case of ETA and the Basque National Liberation Movement. Based on scattered information up to now, the author reconstructs the data that allows quantifying the resources available to this terrorist organization from 1967, when it decided to launch a campaign of assassinations, until 2010, when its attacks ended. In these pages, the profits obtained through violence are analyzed, such as robberies, kidnappings of wealthy people, extortion of businessmen and robberies, as well as those achieved through MLNV entities by capturing public subsidies, commercial benefits and fraud. fiscal. The reader will discover that, among the former, the ransoms paid by the families of the kidnap victims played a major role, while extortion and other sources played a secondary role. As for the latter, the funds provided by the Basque Government stand out, the role played by the other administrations being less, and the profits left by the businesses controlled by ETA. This book also examines the deficiencies of the repressive policy of terrorist financing, the results of which were meager and did not prevent ETA and the MLNV as a whole from having more than 440 million euros to deploy their terrorist campaign. A fundamental work to understand the economic keys of Basque terrorism.
