La Europa eslava

La Europa eslava

Checa Godoy, Antonio

The Slavic world, inaccessible for many decades to Western Europeans, is, beyond wars and topics, a moving and exciting scene. The author, never alone, travels by car, bus, train or ship, seven of these countries, enters their cities, navigates their mighty rivers, sits at his table. Four of them are Catholics -Poland, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic- and they drink a lot of beer; three are Orthodox -Russia, Ukraine, Crimea in the middle, and Bulgaria- and lean towards vodka. They have magnificent writers that we hardly know in the west, suffering and hard-working people who take a while to open up to the traveler, radically transformed cities in a few years, a lot of history behind, some that wants to forget, another that is rescued. All this is discussed in a few pages with questions and reflections, but also full of incisive descriptions of beautiful landscapes, sometimes as in Russia immense, sometimes as in Slovenia, intimate.
