La enfermera del puerto
Metzenthin, Melanie
Hamburg, 1892. Cholera takes over the city, claiming thousands of victims. When Martha's mother dies, it is she who must ensure the survival of the family. Coming from one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city, she manages to gain an apprenticeship at Eppendorf Hospital, where she works hard until she is promoted to surgical nurse. As doctors try to win the battle against time, Hamburg also faces a tumultuous time of political change: port workers go on strike, women fight for the right to vote and improve their living conditions. Martha joins the feminist movement, but she also fights on a much more personal front, as she has not only discovered a love for medicine, but also -and against strict hospital rules- for a young doctor.
