La dulzura del agua
Harris, Nathan
In the aftermath of the civil war, brothers Prentiss and Landry, freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, seek refuge on the estate of white farmer George Walker and his wife, Isabelle. The Walkers, haunted by the death in the war of their only son, hire the brothers to work on their land, hoping that their unexpected friendship will help them heal. Prentiss and Landry, meanwhile, plan to save money to travel north to find a way to reunite with her mother, who was sold when they were children. Parallel to this story takes place a forbidden romance between two Confederate soldiers. The young men, newly returned to Old Ox after the war, celebrate their love encounters in the woods, but when their secret comes to light, the ensuing chaos causes repercussions that destabilize the entire community.
