Brandenburg, 1876. Ricarda, the gardener's daughter, saves the life of the komtess niece Henriette von Freystetten. As a show of gratitude, the aristocrat takes the thirteen-year-old girl to Berlin, where her mansion is the center of high society life. Ricarda thus meets a fascinating new world in the glamorous capital of the empire alongside the charismatic Komtess, one of Germany's first female doctors, who has built an excellent reputation among wealthy patients in the city. However, Ricarda will soon discover the dark side of Berlin: no one seems interested in taking care of the most disadvantaged workers and the children who roam the dirty streets. And that's exactly what she wants to do. Despite obstacles to women studying medicine, she will fight tooth and nail to make her dream come true. But Ricarda does not suspect that Henriette has her own plans for her protégé. And that a meeting with a young student will shake all her convictions to the ground...
