La desfeta

La desfeta

11 de setembre de 1714

Alcoberro, Agustí

On September 11, 1714, the defenders of Barcelona staged a last and heroic battle against Bourbon absolutism. The fall of the city precipitated the abolition of the constitutions of Catalonia, the end of the Catalan state, and began a period characterized by repression, imprisonment and exile. The book describes the events of that historic day, hour by hour, as well as its immediate precedents and consequences. It does so from very diverse testimonies as to nationality, political choice, estate, class, or gender. The result is a choral, rigorous work that incorporates the most recent historical research, and at the same time a vibrant story that is read like a novel. Here are the origins of our National Day.
