La ciudad y las sierras
seguido de, Civilización
Queirós, Eça de
The city and the mountain ranges tell the story of Jacinto, who abandoned the luxuries and comfort of his Parisian mansion and, in the company of his friend Zé Fernandes, first entered the land of his ancestors in the Bajo Due. The journey of the characters allows Eça de Queirós to rework the theme of antagonism between city and city with unusual strength and modernity, making in an ironic, sincere, humorous and serious way the inventory of the advances of the technique, but also of its mishaps. and adversities. The novel, first published in 1901, one year after the author's death, has its origin in a story entitled "Civilization", published in the Gazeta de Noticias de Rio de Janeiro in 1892, which includes this volume.
