La ciencia de la microbiota
Fundación Alícia
We house more than 100 trillion microorganisms in our bodies that perform crucial functions for human survival, from digesting food and extracting vitamins and energy to training our immune systems. And food plays a fundamental role in maintaining a healthy, balanced and diverse microbiota, crucial for maintaining the overall health of the body. Although the science of the microbiota has only just begun, it is known that the three keys to enjoying a healthy ecosystem of microorganisms and, therefore, good health and happiness, is that it be diverse, balanced and stable. And, for the moment, the only thing that has been shown to be capable of influencing and modulating the intestinal microbiota is diet and, to a certain extent, lifestyle, such as sports, good sleep hygiene and avoiding ongoing stress. But what should we eat to feed those bacteria? For what actual reason? How does what we eat influence this community of microorganisms and these influence the brain? This is not a book about superfoods, or miraculous cures or diets, or five-day plans to detoxify the intestine, but a solid and proven manual based on scientific evidence to learn how to eat well, take care of our intestinal microbiota and, ultimately, be healthier and happier.
