Cesarean section is a surgical intervention, which allows the birth of the fetus through the maternal abdomen. A surgical solution for certain problems of pregnancy and childbirth, using a route for birth, very different from the one intended by nature. It is a beneficial surgery when there are complications for the mother and the fetus. In this book various questions are raised, which are very topical, about certain aspects of caesarean section, and to which we try to answer: The frequency of performance, which has increased from 20-30 years ago. This increase and the observed variability is cause for social and professional concern. Why has this increase occurred? Why is a cesarean section indicated? Is there a good adaptation of the medical or obstetric indications, to the standards of the current scientific evidence? How is a cesarean section performed? Currently it is a safer surgery, but for this reason, can this major surgical intervention be trivialized, as well as its risks and consequences on women and newborns be underestimated? Is it an innocuous surgery? What short- and long-term complications can a cesarean section have? Can a woman who has had a previous caesarean section attempt a vaginal delivery in a future pregnancy? Can cesarean section make breastfeeding difficult? Should family support be sought during cesarean section and immediate skin-to-skin contact in the operating room? Should the request for caesarean section be accepted by the mother, without medical or obstetric indication?
