La cautiva de la Alhambra

La cautiva de la Alhambra

Torremocha, Antonio

A family of millers who lives in the mountains of Córdoba is assaulted and captivated by North African warriors who are at the service of the sultan of Granada, taking advantage of the overthrow of the emir Muhammad V. The miller's son, Fadrique, who professes in the Franciscan monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, receives the terrible news and requests his secularization in order to return to Andalusia and find a way to get his parents and his young sister Almodis out of captivity. He manages to cross the Strait as a Mercedarian friar and go to Tetouan, where some alfaqueques have assured him that his parents have been sold as slaves. But, when he agrees, accompanied by another Mercedarian friar, to Tetouan, he receives the discouraging news that his parents have died victims of the plague. He then returns to Córdoba and decides to undertake the search for his sister who, he knows, was given to the new sultan Ismail II.
