La Catalunya carlina
(1 de novembre de 1874)
Toledano González, Lluís Ferran
Historizing Carlist Catalonia is a good opportunity to dispel myths and stereotypes about inner Catalonia, the somewhat derogatory name "Catalonia of the tractor". Catalan Carlism has been one of the richest political cultures in contemporary Catalonia, an expression of monarchism and the counter-revolution in our country, able to inaugurate one of the longest civil war cycles in 19th century Europe, comparable on a global scale with those of Colombia and the Rio de la Plata. Despite the defeats, it was revived in historical contexts such as that of the Democratic Sexenni (1868-1874), already in full industrial and bourgeois society. Then, led by the new pretender Charles VII, Catalan Carlism built a rich network of sociability with circles and casinos and dozens of press headlines, while winning thirteen seats in the general elections of 1871. In a particular theater of operations, s They took up arms, as we have said, in April 1872, and did not succumb until the end of 1876.
