La buena suerte
Montero, Rosa
What drives a man to get off a train early and hide in a seedy town? Do you want to start your life over or do you want to end it? Perhaps he is fleeing from someone, or from something, or even from himself, and fate has brought him to Pozonegro, an old coal center that is now dying. In front of his house, trains pass that can be salvation or condemnation, while the pursuers tighten the fence. Doom seems to be closer every day. But this man, Pablo, also knows people in that cursed place, like the bright, incomplete and somewhat crazy Raluca, who paints pictures of horses and has a secret. There they all carry a secret, some darker and more dangerous than others. And some just ridiculous. There is also humor in that sad town, because life has a lot of comedy. And people who pretend to be who they are not, or who hide what they plan. It is the great game of falsehoods. A hypnotizing intrigue mechanism gradually unravels the mystery of that man, and in doing so shows us the interior of who we are, an X-ray of human longings: fear and serenity, guilt and redemption, hatred and wish. This novel talks about Good and Evil, and how, despite everything, Good predominates. It is a love story, of tender and feverish love between Raluca and the protagonist, but also of love for life. Because after each defeat there can be a new beginning, and because luck is only good if we decide to make it so.
