In 1890 most girls would be happy with the life of the 19-year-old Animant Crumb: a mother dedicated to dressing her in the best clothes and finding her a perfect husband. But Ani does not care about all that, she loves books whose stories have taught her to dream big. Ani's everyday life takes a surprising turn when she receives the unexpected proposal of a trip to London to work in a wonderful old library. There, Ani meets Thomas Reed, a moody librarian, a strange and intriguing man who will awaken feelings in Ani that until now only knew from books. But she will soon discover that various obstacles will stand in the way of her own love story from becoming a reality.
