In 1756, the French writer Jeanne Marie Leprince de Beaumont published this version, the best known, of a story that was rewrote, in their own way, from the Italian Straparola to Perrault or Madame de Villeneuve. To avoid the death threat she has launched against her father, Belle, the noblest daughter of a ruined merchant, agrees to give herself to the Beast, a rude and feral lord of a palace, whom she will get to know little by little and whose heart she will gradually win. A story that testifies to the inner beauty of people and how inadvisable it is to trust appearances.
