La Barcelona universal de Joaquín Cabot

La Barcelona universal de Joaquín Cabot

Cabré, Jordi

Joaquim Cabot is a dream builder. It could be said that apart from his prestigious trade as a jeweler, which raised the Cabot brand to the level of the great European goldsmiths, his greatest "jewel" was that of the Palau de la Música building. He chaired the Associació Orfeó Català when it took an organizational leap and considered building a permanent headquarters and an auditorium, which is still today one of the most emblematic modernist wonders of Barcelona and a benchmark in musical programming throughout the continent. Cabot is a Barcelonan with a universal vocation, capable of gathering means and wills to make realities possible, and he was also able to overcome the times of repression and authoritarianism that he lived through. A goldsmith, writer, poet, promoter, politician, social leader, patron and hiker; an idealistic man, but at the same time, obsessed with making dreams come true: as he expressed on the opening day of the Palau de la Música, addressing the skeptics: "Come, open your eyes, extend your hands, contemplate and touch what you don't you were able to dream".
