La autonomía del sonido

una filosofía de la música

Hindrichs, Gunnar

Socrates is credited with the beautiful definition of philosophy as "the greatest of music". This, which could seem an excess, reminds that both disciplines share the same referent: the beautiful. In the case of music, this statement is almost intuitively justified. But in philosophy, it must be reasoned that the beautiful, as an idea, refers to "what shines with the utmost clarity", elevating the soul to the knowledge of universal ideas. The problem is that there are at least two different ways of understanding the philosophy of music: one based on theoretical reason and the other on mere musical experience. However, both conceptions overlook that music is an art that, in addition to taking into account theoretical reason and practical reason, must take into account aesthetic reason. The present book starts from this third form of reason and delves into it, trying to establish an ontology of music from an aesthetic point of view. To this end, it explores the autonomy of sound, which tries to free itself from the rules imposed by nature or by society, to regulate itself internally. The ultimate goal is to present and describe the musical sound in its particular being, that is, as art.
