L'òpera quotidiana

Mrs. Patrícia Miralpeix is an endearing old woman who knows how to listen. Listen patiently to the story told by Mr. Horace Duke, a shy, disappointed, nationalist, butcher in his fifties. Mrs. Altafulla, who has set her life as a diva, also parades her fantasies with another listener, Mari Cruz, a restless girl born outside Catalonia. As in the works of the great Verdi, the characters of L'òpera quotidiana -from the past and the present, bewildered and dreamy- sing in solitude and start timid duets. As fantastic as the love and failure stories they tell us are as real as life itself, they end up making a picture of Barcelona's customs from the pre-war period to the present day painted with humor and revealing irony.
