Kuala Lumpur
Casajuana, Carles
The director of one of the Spanish companies working on the construction of the giant Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur has been assassinated. The local police consider it a simple mess of skirts and arrest another Spanish citizen. But Jordi Sureda, secretary of the embassy in Malaysia, does not see it so clearly and decides to investigate the crime on his own. The investigations of this normal and ordinary man in a city in transformation, with characters from different cultures, coming and going from the high spheres to the shallows, generate a novel in the manner of Graham Greene. The construction of the Towers -for some years the tallest building in the world- coincided with the time when the writer Carles Casajuana was the Spanish ambassador to Malaysia. Fascinated by the dynamism and contrasts of the country, he wrote a black novel with a touch of humor that is one of the most celebrated of his career.
