Julio Romero de Torres
vida y obra
Fernández Vélez, Teodoro
The life of Julio Romero de Torres, despite being a very important figure, vanished one afternoon among the ashes of his correspondence. A life that he began in the silence of a Cordovan patio and to which he returned at the end of his days. The author of it will make us look through a prism that will reveal different facets of the painter's life. Thus, we will go through the most important moments in the life and work of Julio Romero de Torres, but also those less known of the creator of La musa gitana. Throughout his pages we will discover his family, from whom he inherited his love for art; his city, Córdoba, whose influence marked the artist's taste and way of seeing the world; the transfer of him to Madrid, which increased the universality of his work; his vision of women, who becomes the undisputed protagonist of his canvases, and the secondary role to which his wife is relegated; death, which involves his last works and his funeral; and finally, re-fusing all these approaches into a brilliant ray of light, his legacy, with a tour of his oil paintings and his museum, contemplating how each brushstroke led him to eternity.
