Juana de Castilla
Álvarez, María Teresa
Juana de Castilla was the queen with the worst luck in our history. She could have been the most powerful sovereign of her time: queen of Castile, León, Granada, Aragon, Navarre, Sicily, and overseas lands. But she was betrayed by all the men in her life: by her father, King Ferdinand the Catholic; by her husband, Archduke Philip the Fair, and by her son, Emperor Charles. All three were ambitious for something that only belonged to Juana because, after the death of Isabel la Católica, she was the sole owner of Castile. And all three tried to override it in every possible way. They created the legend of her madness to take away everything that was rightfully hers and confined her for forty-six years in the castle of Tordesillas. No one took pity on her. However, the queen managed to resist to the end.
