Jeremías
poema dramático en nueve cuadros
Zweig, Stefan
Stefan Zweig wrote this play between the spring of 1915 and the beginning of 1917, during the First World War. A staunch pacifist, he chose the figure of Jeremiah, the Jewish prophet who preached in vain, to embody the tragic role of the "defeatist", as the ardent patriots supporters of the war conflict called those who, like Zweig, defended the importance of reaching a understanding between nations. The author embodied in Jeremías -one of his most personal works- the humanist ideals that he defended throughout his life.
