J. J. Abrams
Ruiz, Juanma
Stylistic heir to the great blockbuster directors that emerged within the New Hollywood, J. J. Abrams inhabits a space halfway between film and television, as a creator of unique narrative artifacts and revitalizer of the "mainstream" fantasy genre. If his cathode products have been a fundamental part of the recent "golden ages" of television series, on the big screen Abrams advocates a style opposed to the frenzied hyper-fragmentation that prevailed in the big blockbusters of the 1990s and early 21st century. Against these, Abrams' cinema is clearly indebted to the "Amblin school" led by Steven Spielberg, based on two pillars: the clarity and fluidity of his visual narrative and a skillful use of the registers and tools of melodrama.
