Insolación
una historia amorosa
Pardo Bazán, Emilia, Condesa de
Tambascio, Irlanda
(il.)
On the occasion of the commemoration of the first centenary of the death of the writer Emilia Pardo Bazán, we published a full-color illustrated edition of one of her most important novels: "Insolación", published in 1889, when it had already been recognized by critics as great novelist after the success of "Los Pazos de Ulloa" and "Mother Nature". "Insolación" tells the story of love, passionate and irresistible, between Diego Pacheco, a wayward but good-hearted Don Juan, and the Marchioness of Andrade, A widow, naive but not so, beautiful and sensual, who almost by chance discovers that in order to regain life, she must first dare to resurrect her body, buried under layers of decorum and social demands. In the novel we see the Madrid of the time parade in all its splendor, from the chulapos to the thugs, the popular classes and the aristocrats, the reformers and those who in no way want to be reformed, all mixed up when it comes to participating in the party ta and pleasure. Written to entertain and also to open the minds of the time, with a fluid rhythm, full of anecdotes and funny situations, in "Insolación" Emilia Pardo Bazán dared to touch on a taboo subject that is still the reason for whispers today late night gatherings.
