historia de una civilización

Borreguero Sancho, Eva

Few histories are as complex as that of the Indian civilization. The vast extension of the territory in which it has been developed, its antiquity and the constant interactions with other cultures make it a real challenge to string together a story that reflects all the richness and diversity of its past. Synthesizing more than four thousand years of history of a region in which forty dynasties have come into existence simultaneously is a seemingly enormous task. That is precisely the challenge that historian Eva Borreguero, professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, has set out to overcome in this book. In it, the most outstanding stages of ancient and classical history are examined, and those aspects that illustrate the social, religious and family structure of India are addressed. The author has ordered and selected for the reader the most relevant events of that wonderful past, accompanying them with an analysis of the most outstanding cultural aspects and certain patterns of history in the region. The history of India is not only the fascinating story of a great civilization: it is also the history of more than a fifth of the population of the planet.
