Shrewd, provocative and ambitious as usual, Zizek explores in this book the interstices between fields of knowledge, the gap between philosophy, psychoanalysis and the critique of economic policy. The title is taken from one of Samuel Beckett's late works, and serves the author to investigate the connections between sexuality and the economy with the instruments of Marxism and Lacanian psychoanalysis. The sexualization and abolition of sexuality; techno-scientific progress and globalized capitalism; the phallus and the forbidden; the posthuman and the transgender; fetishism and capitalist perversion; the subject and the object; sadism, masochism and economic domination... are some of the themes that appear in these pages. In them, the philosopher handles, as he usually does, a wide repertoire of diverse referents, ranging from Kant, Kierkegaard, Deleuze and Sade to Lenin, Stalin and Mao, passing through Wagner, Tarkovski or Orson Welles.
