Iberos
Fontán Barreiro, Rafael
The central centuries of the first millennium BC saw the birth of the Iberias, their development and, finally, their integration as Hispania into the Roman world. It is the brilliant time of the protohistory of the Iberian Peninsula, of the incorporation of its inhabitants to the Mediterranean world, mainly caused by the colonization of the Phoenicians and Greeks, and by regular contacts with other peoples of that Koine. Iberians are essential to understand our later history, but there are many limitations that prevent us from deepening our knowledge. It is the case, to begin with, of writing: the signary of a language that we can read, but not interpret. Or the mystery of walls built not for war, but to be the image of power. Or that of the enigmatic destruction of many of its funerary monuments shortly after they were erected, a good example of which is the set of mutilated sculptures from Cerrillo Blanco (Porcuna), today in the Museum of Jaén. This book presents the reader with the current state of affairs based on the most recent literature. But it is, above all, a demanding and daring attempt at reconstruction.
