Historias del mundo de las hormigas
Wilson, Edward Osborne
Edward O. Wilson, one of the world's foremost scientists and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, takes us on a journey from Mozambique to New Guinea, through the forests of Alabama and his parents' overgrown garden, to tell us about exciting way his nine decades of scientific passion for the more than 15,000 existing species of ants. Combining scientific observations with illuminating personal anecdotes, Wilson selects twenty-five species of ants to show us how these genetically superior creatures speak, smell and taste and, above all, fight for dominance. He describes a female-based social structure in which "the males are little more than flying missiles of sperm" and explains the violent battles that rage between colonies whose primary goal is the extermination of the enemy. In addition, he gives us some insights into fire ants, army ants, and leaf cutters, as well as other more exotic species like matabele or bull ants.
