Herodotus is the first prose writer with an extensive work preserved: his History, in nine books. He is also the founder of History as a literary genre and as an intellectual perspective, which makes him one of the best representatives of the golden age of the 5th century BC. With a direct and clear style, no one today doubts his amenity, his intelligence and his enormous capacity to collect, recount and criticize the most diverse facts. This volume collects both the First Medical War (with passages as famous as the Battle of Marathon) and the Second Medical War (which narrates in detail the Persian military advance and the Battle of Thermopylae).
