Historia del cerco de Lisboa
Saramago, José
Raimundo Silva, a proofreader for a publishing house, is an anodyne character whose mission in life is to preserve the integrity of the texts that come into his hands. One day, revising an essay on the siege of the city of Lisbon, he feels the irrepressible impulse to insert a "No" where a "Yes" should appear. This apparently innocuous decision alters, without a doubt, the written history, but it will also be fundamental in his personal life. From that moment on, the conservative Raimundo Silva will no longer be a patient subject of history, both universal and personal, because his act of rebellion makes him assume the leading role that, as a man, and therefore as a hegemonic being , corresponds to him in life.
