Historia del Almirante

Colón, Fernando

The Admiral's History brings together a succinct biography of Christopher Columbus and an extensive account of his four trips to America. Written by his son Hernando Colón, the text stands out for the imprint of veiled mystery and fascinating adventure, far from being configured as an accumulation of historical data. Although the work has been the subject of controversy due to the dubious authorship of the biographical section and the exaltation of the figure of the Admiral, there is no doubt that this book is "a fundamental text for the historiography of discovery", as evidenced by Pedro's prologue. Insua that accompanies this edition. What we know in depth about the life of Columbus is thanks to this work, whose original version in Spanish disappeared. The text that Manuel Carrera Díaz offers us follows the Italian translation published in 1571, but is based above all on the version by Rinaldo Caddeo.
