Historia de Somalia

Arconada Ledesma, Pablo

Somalia, due to its geostrategic situation and its peculiar nature -being a crossroads of different cultures- has lived a particular trajectory. Although its recent history, marked by instability and factional fighting, is mostly known, the country has a rich past marked by trade networks, the development of sultanates, which had significant influence and power, and by international relations with other powers. The merit of this work is that it comprehensively addresses the history of Somalia from prehistory to the present day. Throughout ten chapters, the main processes and events in this region are recounted from its historical origins, through classical times, clancentrist sultanates, colonization, independence and the creation of the Republic of Somalia, the socialist regime, the civil war and attempts at state reconstruction in recent decades. This book makes us aware of the historical processes of the Somali peoples to understand the current situation of the country.
